Virgin Australia have announced several new initiatives for Tasmania, including an extra daily service between Hobart and Melbourne and a new lounge and Priority Boarding service for premium guests at Hobart Airport.

The additional daily service between Hobart and Melbourne will commence by September 2012, increasing Virgin Australia’s total flights on that route from 62 to 76 per week.

Located in the Hobart Airport Domestic Terminal, the new 75-seater lounge will open in 2013 and will offer business facilities, entertainment and a Luke Mangan designed buffet.

With the additional Hobart-Melbourne flight , Virgin Australia will offer more than 200 services a week in and out of Tasmania. Virgin Australia have advised they are committed to becoming the airline of choice in Tasmania. Virgin Australia’s Priority Boarding service introduces a separate, dedicated lane at the boarding gate, enabling premium guests to board when they like. The service will be available on all flights departing Hobart from March 23 2012. In line with its tradition of naming aircraft after Australian beaches, Virgin Australia also today confirmed that its new Boeing 737 aircraft due in May 2012 would be named after Tasmania’s iconic Sandy Bay.

Further details relating to the timing of the new Hobart-Melbourne service and the Lounge will be released by Virgin Australia in coming months.
