Newcastle Airport has announced it has gained funding from the New South Wales government to expand its airport terminal. It is hoped the expanded terminal will encourage the expansion of services to the airport.
The grant of $11.1 million dollars is part of the Hunter Infrastructure Investment fund.
Newcastle Airport CEO, Paul Hughes, said “Receiving this funding is a real game changer; the expansion will provide the space for us to grow our domestic services and give us the capability to move into the short-haul international market.
The expansion is consistent with the Defence-approved Newcastle Airport Master Plan and gives certainty to the future growth of services to and from the Airport.
“Our research has told us for some time that the people in our region want to be able to fly more often and to new destinations, some of them international. Developing the terminal will give us the ability to provide this” concluded Paul.
