Membership of Civil Air is governed by the Australian Industrial legislation and is currently available to current and former Australian Air Traffic Controllers, Trainee Air Traffic Controllers, Air Traffic Control support staff and Contract Civilian Air Traffic Controllers employed by the Australian Defence Department.
The President and five Vice Presidents form the Association’s Committee of management. This committee meets at least monthly to progress management matters and the implementation of Civil Air policy.
The National Executive of the Association comprises of the Committee of Management and the elected Divisional Delegates. The National Executive meets at least 3 times a year, usually in March/April, August and December and usually in Melbourne. Additional meetings are conducted by phone hook-ups as required. The National Executive is responsible for making Civil Air policy. All members are elected for 2 year terms.
Any member of the Association can propose a change to policy, in accordance with the registered rules of The Civil Air Operations Officers’ Association of Australia, by the submission of a Working Paper to the National Executive. Members can also submit a Discussion Paper to the National Executive to discuss an issue of interest that does not involve a change in policy.
