The Commonwealth Government today announced the reappointment of Dr Warren Mundy to the position of Deputy Chair of the Board of AirservicesAustralia for a further 3 years.

As well as a member of the AirservicesAustralia board, Dr Mundy is also working on a Commonwealth Government inquiry into Australia's Urban Water sector and a Commonwealth Government study into Emission Reduction Policies and Carbon Prices in Key Economies.  Dr Mundy has previously held senior executive roles in the airports industry in both Australia and Europe as well as other government posts.  Dr Munday was originally appointed to the AirservicesAustralia board in June 2008.

AirservicesAustralia is the wholly government owned corporation responsible for Air Traffic Control, Aviation Rescue and Fire Services and associated services at the nations airports and continental airspace.  Currently there are 3 million flights a year carrying 75 million passengers through Australian airspace.  These numbers are forecast to double by 2030.  AirservicesAustralia is committed to spend $1 billion over the next five years to modernise air traffic control infrastructure as well as upgrade rescue and fire fighting services.

It is estimated the aviation industry contributes $5 billion a year  to the Australian economy and provides employment to 50 000 Australians.  Approximately 900 of these Australians are Air Traffic Controllers and Support Staff.
