Ms Terri Butler, the Labor Party candidate for the upcoming by election of Griffith, has called for a trial of a curfew at Brisbane Airport.

Ms Butler has proposed no trial be commenced until the construction of the new runway is completed in 2020.The proposed curfew would be similar to the one in place at Sydney Airport and operate between the hours of 11pm and 6am. Ms Butler has called for community consultation prior to any curfew being introduced.

Dr Bill Glasson , the Liberal National Party candidate, has expressed the opinion that the new runway will allow more flights over Moreton Bay.  Dr Glasson has not endorsed any curfew when asked.

Currently Brisbane Airport caters for 220,000 aircraft movements a year with this number forecast to increase to 272000 by 2020 when the new runway becomes operational.

The former member for Griffith, Mr Kevin Rudd, has previously raised the possibility of a curfew at Brisbane Airport, the third busiest in the nation.

The seat of Griffith is located in Brisbane's south and is located southwest of Brisbane airport.
