Sydney newspaper the Daily Telegraph is reporting that the Commonwealth Government is about to sign off on a $250 million package to upgrade road and rail infrastructure to the site of the proposed second Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek.

Sydney newspaper the Daily Telegraph is reporting that the Commonwealth Government is about to sign off on a $250 million package to upgrade road and rail infrastructure to the site of the proposed second Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek.

A minute has been prepared by the Infrastructure minister Mr Warren Truss and will be presented to cabinet next week for sign off.  The minute is reported to have the backing of Prime Minister Tony Abbott. Former NSW Premier Nick Griener, a long time supporter of the second airport, has been recruited to lobby government members in the vicinity of Badgerys Creek.

Several government members are said to be favour of the second airport in the west of Sydney to ease congestion at Kingsford-Smith airport.  The project is expected to provide employment in the west of Sydney.  Estimates have the economic benefits  of 30,000 jobs and an economic output of $9 billion dollars.

A price tag for the total project of the new airport has not been calculated but previous estimates have been in the region of $2.3 billion.
